New and Not so New Tools in Photoshop

With new tools coming to Photoshop we thought it would be a good idea to give a heads up as to what they might. We also thought it might be an idea to include some of the not so new as well. Not the newest but certainly one of the most popular features on the Photoshop Courses is the Content Aware Fill tool which has been greatly updated in the latest versions.

Then there is the New Object Selection Tool coming to Photoshop in the very near future. But this is going to be quite a fluid post so as and when new tools appear we’ll add them to this post but in the meantime take a quick look at these Youtube videos to get an idea of what goes on in the software.

    What is Photoshop?

Posted on 3rd June 2019 by Greta Powell

    What is Photoshop?

Photoshop has been around since the 80’s and is often described as the industry standard photo editing app. In essence what it does is create, edit and enhance photography for a multitude of purposes for both the business or home user.

    What’s it used for?

The answer to that is how long is a piece of string? It can be used in photo production for editing huge amounts of photos, to lightly edit business images, create animated GIF’s, edit basic videos, design social media icons and create digital artwork similar to paintings. It truly is huge.

What is a raster & what is a vector?

In short raster refers to a photograph (pixels) whilst vector refers to a drawn piece of artwork. So for example if David Bailey had to pick one he’d opt for Photoshop whereas Vincent Van Gogh would go for Illustrator.

Adobe Lightroom Training – for schools

It was recently a great pleasure to deliver an Adobe Lightroom Course combined with an Adobe Photoshop course to a school in Lincolnshire. This was for the Photography and Media departments who were particularly interested in looking into Lightroom CC to add features to their school curriculum later this year. The approach to this Adobe Lightroom Training was quite simple – a basic overview of its tools and tabs and how it could be adapted for straightforward use for their students.

There were three people on the Adobe Lightroom Training in Lincolnshire and with differing skill-sets and areas of interest it was decided to split the day up into two with the Adobe Photoshop Training in the morning and Lightroom Course in the afternoon.

Pantone Colour of the Year – 18-3838

18-3838 – Pantone Colour of the year

So sometimes I do ‘get it right’ – my website had a major overhaul earlier this year but we opted to keep the same colour theme as the previous one and yes its pretty much the same shade as 18-3838. Its very rare when training most days that Pantone Swatches don’t get a mention, its normally the opposite

    Short History of Pantone Colours

Pantone began life in the early 1950’s owned by the printers M & J. Levine Advertising but the foundations that are known today were founded in 1962 when it was purchased by a long term employee Lawrence Herbert who’d been there since 1956 (my birth year – weird or what?)

    Adobe Lightroom CC

With excitement waning about Lightroom CC I’ve been quietly beavering away working through the new features and updates and to be honest the one that really grabs me as special is the new colour and luminosity masking in Lightroom Classic CC.

    What is a Range Mask?

A Range Mask lets you create masks based on their luminosity as well as colour which is ideal for skies and foamy oceans.

    Photoshop 2018 – Share

Photoshop 2018 is full of wonderful new features but on this post I thought I’d show one of the lesser known ones. Its the new Share feature, which gives you the ability to share or email photos to various services directly from within Photoshop including Facebook and Lightroom.
