Turn off SmartObject Layers in Photoshop by default.
So you’ve selected ‘Place’ then popped over to your hard drive and imported an image. Said image predictably appears in the Layers panel just as you expected, You flex your fingers ready for serious image editing then bang the following message pops up.
Pressing Control /Command T brings up the transform tool which is used to resize and edit existing shapes on the canvas. But there is so much more to transform; you just need to check out it’s additional features.
Try going to the Edit Menu and scrolling down to Transform to reveal its sub menu of different options which is where the fun begins.
Using the Paint Symmetry tool in Photoshop lets you create mirrored and symmetrical designs and patterns such as mandalas. Symmetry works with the brushes, eraser and pencil as well as with layer masking and there are ten symmetry tools available to use.
For this particular post we’ve chosen to work with the Mandala tool.
So during these last few weeks the focus has been on getting the courses delivered online and finally there seems to be headway. People seem to be taking advantage of the small bite sized chunks – they can just ring in or email with a problem and depending on the situation either hook up immediately or make a time later in the day.
With new tools coming to Photoshop we thought it would be a good idea to give a heads up as to what they might. We also thought it might be an idea to include some of the not so new as well. Not the newest but certainly one of the most popular features on the Photoshop Courses is the Content Aware Fill tool which has been greatly updated in the latest versions.
Then there is the New Object Selection Tool coming to Photoshop in the very near future. But this is going to be quite a fluid post so as and when new tools appear we’ll add them to this post but in the meantime take a quick look at these Youtube videos to get an idea of what goes on in the software.
It’s a good question but probably the best answer to ‘What is Photoshop?’ is that it’s all things to everyone involved in image creation.
Photographers love it because they can enhance their photographs and make them beautiful, businesses and designers use it for creating professional artwork for print and digital whereas artists use it to create painting’s from their images.
You can import images directly from your camera or download them from online storage then create, edit and enhance them for your own purposes whether business or personal.
I love running graphic design training courses especially when you see what people create in the space of one day. I love this image that was converted to Black and White on a recent Photoshop Course by one of the delegates. Who, incidentally had never used the software before.

In this post we will be taking a look at some of Photoshop’s useful tools that make real life at the desk a little easier. The first one we’ll look at is having more control during the image sharpening process.
At long last here is the new Select Subject Tool in Photoshop CC 2018 which, as its name suggests lets you select the main subject of the photo usually an animal or person but with a single click after which you go into Select and Mask to refine the subject selection. It’s all thanks to Adobes new ‘AI’ technology known as Adobe Sensei which is behind the Adobe Stock search engine. Enough of the technical already and lets take a look at how it works.
Photoshop 2018 is full of wonderful new features but on this post I thought I’d show one of the lesser known ones. Its the new Share feature, which gives you the ability to share or email photos to various services directly from within Photoshop including Facebook and Lightroom.
