    InDesign Training Course Work

One of the things I often get asked about in an initial training email query or voice chat is what would I expect to be able to do or be able to achieve after a days training. It’s a difficult one to answer really as the results are so broad. It’s normally down to you and what you want to achieve in the InDesign Training Course Work?

Anyway I thought it might be helpful if I showed some examples of work from delegates on some of the courses and I’m going to start it off with a newsletter spread designed by a delegate on the InDesign Introduction Course.

    InDesign Colour Theme Tool

Welcome to the Two Minute Tut’s series on the InDesign Colour Theme Tool.

In these mini tuts you can learn one Adobe technique, tool or feature. They are recorded to run for no more than two minutes (well, sometimes they run over) and introduce one of Adobe’s nifty little tools. And today that just happens to be the turn of the slinky little Colour Theme Tool in Adobe InDesign

    Adobe InDesign PDF Interactive Course

Training seems to go round in circles – one month it’s Photoshop Training another InDesign Courses and May has been no different except its been the Adobe InDesign Interactive PDF course that’s proving popular. These courses have been delivered onsite at clients premises from the heart of the Midlands, up to Yorkshire, down to London and just about everywhere else in between this last month.

    Financial savings with PDF

The most of obvious savings are the huge postage costs immediately slashed and your paper and ink bills also slashed.

    What is a PDF?

Dynamic documents or PDF means you can create and distribute your own digital documents. These can be as simple as plain text with links for navigating the document or creating and designing a more creative interactive document such as a newsletter, brochure or slideshow. Working with InDesign gives you the ability to create very visually appealing and professionally presented .PDF documents for export.

In InDesign you can create two types of PDF, one for print and one for interactive content such as rich media, buttons and forms. Adobe InDesign is far more versatile than is realised and can publish both interactive books and presentations.

    Adobe InDesign PDF Interactive Course

The course has just been updated to reflect the ever changing and growing requirements of clients but among other things you will learn how to:

    • Create & Prepare an InDesign document for PDF Export
    • Interactive Panel
    • Add Navigation, Buttons & Hyperlinks
    • Work with Images & Image Manipulation
    • Add Video, Video Properties
    • Add Rich Media Content
    • Add Social Media Content
    • Work with Object States
    • Add Interactive Forms
    • Publish the Files

InDesign Tutorial – Text Frame Columns

There are a number of ways to create columns in InDesign but in this InDesign tutorial it’s the Text Frame Object that will be covered. In this one box you have the ability to set the amount of columns, balance them evenly and to adjust the width between them.

There is a video at the end of the tutorial for those who prefer a more visual approach otherwise…………………..

    Training Reviews

Although I specialise in onsite Adobe Training for companies, teams and individuals across the UK another string to the bow is delivering courses for training companies. I thought it might be helpful to include a few of the comments made elsewhere about my training courses.

Whatever the requirement or however obscure the training request please get in touch to discuss how I can assist with the Adobe Training delivery.

    Design Marketing Materials in InDesign

This course was tailored for the client who runs a boutique hotel, spa & golf course in Worcestershire. The brief was a straightforward one, the delegate was a complete newcomer to the software who wanted to bring her outsourcing costs down by designing her own marketing materials in-house. One of her pressing needs was designing some marketing materials printed externally in time for Mothers Day which is coming up very shortly. Whilst learning the software she created designs in the form of name badges, leaflets, small brochures and so forth.

    Design & Typography – A brief history

Type is possibly the most beautiful thing about a spread. It’s the element that defines the document in so many ways. Its not often on the Greta Powell blog that I post from external sources but I felt this was an article about type worth sharing.

Text is never simply text—typography, or the way type is arranged on a layout, has a huge influence over the visual impact of a message, setting the tone and mood for the reader. Type design has a long and fascinating history, and the digital fonts we use today often have incredible origin stories. “

Magazine Design Training Course with InDesign

Magazine Design Training Course with InDesign

Last week saw a return to an old client – the department of life sciences at the University of Nottingham to deliver a two day training course using InDesign to create and layout magazines. As part of their course the MSc students on the Biological Photograpy and Imagine Course put together a magazine /book containing their work over the past year. This includes interviews, articles and, of course photography – which is where I come in to show them how to work with the InDesign software.

This particular InDesign Course has evolved over the years and today the students learn not only how to use InDesign but also how to build their magazine from scratch incorporating a brand (which they create during the two days), a typographical style and image placement among other things.

Adobe InDesign Training – Using Grids

Adobe InDesign Training -Using Grid Layouts

Why use a grid layout in InDesign? Although many designers like to ‘break the grid’ and work without the best designers will have already put in many, many hours already working within grid rules before opting out. Grids provide the solid structure, the flow of the document layout, they are the skeleton that the flesh of position and balanced are based on. They naturally guide the eye across the spread, draw its attention to a specific piece of content.
