What is Adobe Firefly and how does it work in Photoshop?
Adobe Firefly is changing how designers create images, graphics and digital content using AI. Built directly into Photoshop, Firefly powers tools like Generative Fill, allowing you to add, remove or extend content using simple text prompts. But what exactly is Adobe Firefly, and how does it work in real-world Photoshop workflows?

The Sketch-to-Vector Magic: This is personally one of my absolute favorite updates! Over in Illustrator, you can now upload a rough pencil sketch or flat image, and Firefly instantly turns it into a clean, fully editable vector design. It keeps your exact layout intact and completely skips hours of manual pen-tool tracing. It is a total game-changer for logos and icons.
Mind-blowing Image-to-Video: I am completely obsessed with this one! You can now take a completely flat, static photo like a product shot or a digital graphic and Firefly will animate it into a high-quality video clip. For anyone creating TikToks, Instagram Reels, or quick workplace training videos, it means you can create dynamic motion graphics in seconds without ever touching a complex animation suite.
Audio is officially here: Firefly isn’t just about images anymore. They’ve rolled out a really clever audio suite where you can generate custom music tracks, sound effects, and even lifelike voiceovers from text prompts. It’s brilliant for knocking out quick video content. Massive batch editing: If you have to edit dozens of product photos or social graphics at once, the new Interfaces feature lets you apply AI tweaks to hundreds of assets in one go. It’s a massive time-saver.

The last few days has seen the release of Firefly AI Assistant currently in Beta mode. This is agentic assistant AI tool that’s been discussed for sometime. Unlike its more traditional AI tools, who’d have thought we’d already be classing Adobe AI tools as traditional already, but we are and this is where we are.
It’s been described elsewhere as an intelligent creative operator; I have no idea where lots of this terminology originates but some of it is rather cool. As we haven’t had time to look into properly yet we thought you might find this post from Forest Kay interesting and informative.

What is Adobe Firefly?
Adobe Firefly is Adobe’s generative AI platform that allows you to create images, graphics and design elements using text prompts. It’s designed specifically for creative professionals and integrates with tools like Photoshop, InDesign and Adobe Express.

Firefly is available via Standard, Pro, or Premium subscriptions; otherwise, it is included with your existing Adobe Creative Cloud plan.
