Adobe InDesign AI Tools and Features

Generative Expand in Adobe InDesignSometimes if feels as if InDesign has been a little left behind with AI features. Photoshop and Illustrator seem to have a plethora of updated generative tools almost on a weekly basis. Lets see if that really is the case and look at some of the Adobe InDesign AI Tools and Features.

Not too sure that weekly updates is totally accurate but it does feel like that sometimes.

Take a look at the recent Adobe Photoshop AI Tools and Features post to see what’s happening on the AI front in Photoshop.

However not with this feature which is extremely powerful and super easy to use.

    Adobe InDesign Layouts

The overall composition of document in InDesign can be complicated with one layout problem encountered by designers is the changing the placement or size of an image in a layout.

One option is to source a new image or resize the image itself – this can lead to complications and take up precious time.

But mostly that’s a thing of a the past due to Content Aware Fill which lets designers ‘generate’ new content to fill in any emptiness in the image frame.

Using the Content Aware Fill button on the contextual toolbar it becomes much easier and faster to create new content to fill the empty space in the desired frame — all without leaving InDesign. Select an image frame and, if the image does not fit the frame, simply click Content Aware to fit the image perfectly to the frame. Or enter a text prompt on how to extend the image, adding in your desired background.

Green area is the empty frame

Brown area is the content fill

    What are Adobe Style Packs?

Style packs are collections of styles contained in InDesign that have a one click application. These are powered by Adobe Sensei which examines the existing text then selects the appropriate pack.

This is possible one of our favourite AI features in InDesign because choose text styles for a document can be difficult and it is vital the right style of text is used to complete the design aesthetic

Activated from the Window menu >Styles >Style Packs the following panel appears.
