So during these last few weeks the focus has been on getting the courses delivered online and finally there seems to be headway. People seem to be taking advantage of the small bite sized chunks – they can just ring in or email with a problem and depending on the situation either hook up immediately or make a time later in the day.
So exactly what do you get to do on an Introduction to InDesign Training Course? Well in essence you learn the tools, interface, features and functions that you need to create, edit and design documents for print, social media, web or whatever. By whatever, I do mean whatever because InDesign is so versatile it is used for many things. On the Intro Course its used to produce flyers, newsletters, brochures, tender documents. Instead of chatting about it here on the blog we thought you might like to take a look at a few InDesign Training Examples from previous courses.
It was recently a great pleasure to deliver an Adobe Lightroom Course combined with an Adobe Photoshop course to a school in Lincolnshire. This was for the Photography and Media departments who were particularly interested in looking into Lightroom CC to add features to their school curriculum later this year. The approach to this Adobe Lightroom Training was quite simple – a basic overview of its tools and tabs and how it could be adapted for straightforward use for their students.
There were three people on the Adobe Lightroom Training in Lincolnshire and with differing skill-sets and areas of interest it was decided to split the day up into two with the Adobe Photoshop Training in the morning and Lightroom Course in the afternoon.
Last week saw a return to an old client – the department of life sciences at the University of Nottingham to deliver a two day training course using InDesign to create and layout magazines. As part of their course the MSc students on the Biological Photograpy and Imagine Course put together a magazine /book containing their work over the past year. This includes interviews, articles and, of course photography – which is where I come in to show them how to work with the InDesign software.
This particular InDesign Course has evolved over the years and today the students learn not only how to use InDesign but also how to build their magazine from scratch incorporating a brand (which they create during the two days), a typographical style and image placement among other things.
Why use a grid layout in InDesign? Although many designers like to ‘break the grid’ and work without the best designers will have already put in many, many hours already working within grid rules before opting out. Grids provide the solid structure, the flow of the document layout, they are the skeleton that the flesh of position and balanced are based on. They naturally guide the eye across the spread, draw its attention to a specific piece of content.
It’s been Photoshop, Photoshop and Photoshop training this week with one of the courses being run down in the South West. The countryside views were absolutely stunning on the drive down.
This was the second of two training days where the course content had been specifically tailored for the companies design team and photographer. From the initial email contact through to the final training delivery day all aspects of the course were co-ordinated by the design team, HR and myself.
